National Desk:
The Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Saturday (29 October) asked member countries not to tolerate terrorist activities in their countries. All the countries present in the two-day special conference held in India resolved to deal with terrorism more strongly.
In this meeting, while approving the Delhi Declaration, the challenges of terrorism and the priorities of the Council in combating the financing of terrorism were listed.
In the Delhi Declaration, the global body expressed concern over the increasing use of the Internet and other communication technologies, including social media platforms, for terrorist purposes. The council said that innovations in fintech, such as 'crowdfunding' platforms, pose a threat of funding to terrorists. It also expressed concern over the increasing use of unmanned aerial systems by terrorists to attack critical infrastructure.
The Council reiterated that terrorism in all its forms constitutes the most serious threat to international peace and security and resolved to contribute with effect to the best efforts to combat this menace on a global scale. The CTC said that "terrorism should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilization or ethnic group". The Council called on member countries to continue their efforts towards a comprehensive agreement on international terrorism.
