Assam Association of Alberta celebrates Rangali Bihu in Canada ,Calgary

Rangali Bihu is fervently awaited Jatiya Utshav for all Assamese over the globe. Even non-resident Assamese also wait eagerly with excitement to celebrate Rangali Bihu every year in Canada Calgary. 
Assam Association of Alberta hosted the community event in Calgary,  On April 16 with much fanfare at the Scandinavian Cultural Centre. The celebration was attended not only by the members of the assamese community of alberta but also by other ethnic indian communities .
The event started with meet and greet session . Then the people relished Jolpan which included  doi, bora chaol, gur, cream along with different pithas and laroos like boga pitha ,til pitha ,ghila pitha,narikol laru .
In the evening after a short tea break, activities resumed with the days attraction - the cultural show. The dignified and magnificent show begin with beautiful national anthems ‘O Canada’ and ‘Jana Gana Mana’ followed by welcoming speech of Mr. Arup Goswami, president of Assam Association of Alberta (AAA).Each one of them was welcomed by the executive committee members from Assam Association of Alberta with a traditional Japi and a gamusa.
The cultural program started with 'Moinar Moumel -Childrens bihu dance'  by the children of Assam Association of Alberta. The participants were Sneha Boruah ,Adriti Sarma and Hiya Dutta .Next performance was a 'Chorus' by an adult.In between there were songs performed by Gitashree Apte ,Aghore Bhattacharya,Kavita Upadhaya,Arup Goswami ,Papari Borthakur ,Siddhartha Sharma .The main attraction of the night was a'Mukoli bihu'and state anthem of Assam ' O mur Aapunar Dex' .Expatriate Assamese engineer Abhisruti Dutta Barua was in charge of the entire program.
