News Desk :

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has lifted the state of emergency in Sri Lanka.  The president issued a statement late Tuesday night saying he was withdrawing the state of emergency.  As a result, the security forces will be able to control any kind of unrest in the country, he said in the statement.

President Gotabaya declared a state of emergency in Sri Lanka on April 1 amid a financial crisis.  It was issued on 3 April.  Sri Lanka has been facing a severe economic crisis for the past week and a half.  The cry for fuel in the country.  Transportation is almost closed.  10-13 hours load shedding is also being done across the country to save cost.  The people of Colombo erupted in protest.  Shortly afterwards, President Gotabaya declared a state of emergency across Sri Lanka.  Ignoring the state of emergency, however, students of various colleges and universities across the country were also agitating for the removal of the royal family from power.
The political crisis has also gripped Sri Lanka in the wake of the financial crisis.  The new finance minister resigned within 24 hours of taking the oath.  Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa's government also lost a majority in parliament on Tuesday as 41 members withdrew their support in Sri Lanka.  In this situation, a section of the opposition has demanded of Sri Lankan President Gotabhaya (who happens to be the brother of Prime Minister Mahinda) that the government should immediately prove its majority in the session of Parliament.
At the same time, there are calls for Gotabaya to resign and form a "national government" to deal with the financial crisis.
