More than 200 new BrahMos-ER missiles will be installed in Indian Navy's warships

The Cabinet Committee on Defense has approved the purchase of more than 200 BrahMos-ER missiles for Rs 19 thousand crore.  These supersonic cruise missiles will be installed in warships of the Indian Navy.  A deal is likely to be signed between BrahMos Aerospace and the Defense Ministry in the first week of March.
 Indian Navy has successfully tested this missile in the range of 400 and 500 kilometers.  Tests have also been conducted from Rajput class frigate, Kolkata and Visakhapatnam class guided missile destroyer.  The old BrahMos missile with 300 km range is deployed in naval warships.  Range will increase with BrahMos-ER.
 ER means Extended Range.  The Indian Army has five regiments of BrahMos missiles.  That means more than 300 missiles.  In the year 2016, India and Russia together wanted to develop a version of BrahMos missile which could hit at a range of at least 1500 kilometers or more.  That too with 100 percent accuracy.  On November 24, 2020, DRDO successfully tested the 800 km range variant of BrahMos missile.
