'Deohah Open Karate Championship' aimed at conservation and protection of state bird

The state bird of Assam is the 'deohah'.  Half of the world's 800 deohah are found in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and neighboring Myanmar.  A sports competition has been held for the first time in the state to conserve, promote and create awareness about this endangered state bird of Assam.
 The Unified Karate Guild is holding the 'Deohah Open Karate Championship' for the first time.  The tournament will be held from April 1 to 3 at the Patriot Tarun Ram Fukan Indoor Stadium at Nehru Stadium in Guwahati.
 More than 2,000 karate players have already registered for the tournament and there are more than 600,000 cash prizes.  Cash prizes will be awarded in all weight categories of the 83 events.
 The tournament will be attended by karate players from Assam, North East and other states of the country in an attempt to conserve, protect and create awareness about the state bird deohah.
 There are more than 400 of these in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and neighboring Myanmar alone.  Therefore, this initiative has been taken to promote the conservation and protection of this state bird.
