Eminent economists of the country have written a letter to the Finance Minister before the budget, in which a demand has been made to increase the pension for the sake of social security.  Along with this, there has been a demand to make adequate provision for maternity benefits.
Talking about the pension of the elderly, under the National Old Age Pension Scheme, the central government is giving pension at the rate of only Rs 200 per month since 2006.  The Economist says that this is not true at all.  The central government should increase this contribution to at least Rs 500 per month.
