World Radio Day 2024: World Radio Day is celebrated on 13 February to raise awareness about the importance of radio. In many countries, it is the primary source of providing information.
It is generally believed that the first radio broadcast was made by Guglielmo Marconi in 1895 and that radio broadcasts of music and talk, aimed at a wide audience, came into existence experimentally, sometime around 1905–1906.
Radio came into commercial existence in the early 1920s. Radio stations came into existence about three decades later, and by the 1950s, radio and broadcasting systems became a common commodity throughout the world.
The theme of World Radio Day to be celebrated on February 13, 2024, this time is "Radio: A century of informing, entertaining and educating". The UN says, “The 2024 celebration highlights the history of radio and its powerful impact on news, drama, music and sport. It is used to give information about natural and man-made disasters like storms, earthquakes, floods, heat, forest fires, accidents and wars, emergencies and power cuts and hence it is also considered important for security.
