Former US President Donald Trump surrendered to Atlanta's Fulton County Jail Thursday on charges of attempting to overturn Georgia's 2020 election results. He was then arrested by prison authorities, according to media reports. The former U.S. president is being held in the Fulton County Jail. According to the report, before Trump surrendered, a large number of his supporters gathered outside the prison and protested. Supporters of the former president chanted slogans against District Attorney Fani Willis.
This is the fourth time this year that a former president has surrendered to local or federal authorities in connection with criminal charges against him. Earlier, Trump said he was ready to surrender to Georgia provincial prison authorities on charges of plotting to overturn the 2020 election. Trump faces more than a dozen charges, including plotting to overturn Georgia's 2020 election results. Trump and 18 others have been charged in the case.
He remains the leading Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential nomination. However, his presence in court is likely to be extremely brief. The Fulton County prosecution is the fourth criminal case against Trump since March, when he became the first former president in U.S. history to be convicted.
