Hearing a petition filed in the viral video case of women walking around naked in Manipur, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said it was not the only instance against women since violence erupted in the northeastern state about three months ago.  Women who were walked around naked and sexually assaulted in Manipur have knocked on the door of the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court has sought replies from the Center and the state government on the Manipur issue.  The Supreme Court on Monday sought replies on all FIRs, steps taken for investigation, what steps were taken for rehabilitation and other issues during the hearing.  With these answers, the Supreme Court will hear the issue again on Tuesday.
During the hearing, the NGO told the court that many women had fled the violence to other states.  Their statements should be recorded where they are.  To this, the CJI asked whether most of those women were in Delhi.  If yes, their statements should also be recorded.  "Our idea is to ensure that we create a sense of confidence in the constitutional process in the society," the CJI said.
Survivors of the May 4 violence in the state have filed a separate application with their petition in connection with the FIR related to the sexual assault incident.  While hearing the case, the CJI said, "This video is not the only incident of attack on women. The affidavit filed by the home secretary indicates many such instances."
The CJI asked the Attorney General how many FIRs have been registered for attacks on women since violence erupted between the Kuki and Maitei communities on May 3 .  The CJI said, "It should not be the case that we direct a case to be registered only when a second video comes out...we have to ensure that justice is done to these three women."
