Manipur has been in violence for more than 85 days. Many areas are deserted. People here have fled to other states because of the violence. More than 12,600 IDPs from Manipur are camped in neighboring Mizoram alone. The state government is providing these people with everything from food and drink to essentials. The Mizoram government says it has not received any relief package from the central government.
Mizoram Home Commissioner and Secretary H Lalengmawia said Chief Minister Joramthanga had demanded Rs 10 crore as an immediate relief package for the displaced people in May. "We have not received any assistance from the Center so far," Lalengmawia told the news agency. The state government has raised and spent funds itself to provide relief to the displaced people of Manipur.
He hoped that the Center would soon sanction the amount of the package for these people. The Mizoram government says people have been seeking refuge in Mizoram since communal violence broke out in neighboring Manipur on May Lalengmawia also said that the Mizoram administration has appealed to legislators, government employees, bankers and others to donate for the victims of violence.
