Explosion at cracker unit in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, 8 people killed,many injured

Eight people, including three women, were killed in an explosion at a cracker unit in Tamil Nadu's Krishnagiri district on Saturday.  Several people were injured in a sudden explosion at a cracker-making warehouse in Pazhayapettai in the district.
 According to police, the blast was so powerful that houses and some shops near the unit were damaged.  Police and fire and rescue service personnel have rushed to the scene to rescue the affected.
 According to initial reports, most of the victims are people who were passing through the unit at the time of the blast.  The blast occurred around 10 am, destroying a house near the cracker unit, a welding shop, another separate shop and a restaurant.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted his sorrow over the incident.  “I am deeply saddened by the tragic accident at a firecracker factory in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, which claimed many precious lives.  My condolences and prayers are with the families of the victims at this very difficult time.  May the wounded recover soon.  The relatives of each deceased will be given Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund and the injured Rs 50,000."
