Indian Army will get 75 indigenous howitzer cannon ATAGS every year. ATAGS stands for Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System. The Army needs 307 such cannons. for which the Defense Acquisition Council has approved the Acceptance of Necessity.
ATAGS is a joint venture between Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), Tata Advanced Systems Limited, Mahindra Defense Naval Systems and Bharat Forge Limited. This cannon is of 155 mm/52 calibre. Last year, it was successfully tested at the Pokaran Field Firing Range in Rajasthan.
This cannon can be carried anywhere. Whether it is the Pakistani border or the Chinese border. Currently, the Indian Army has about 7-8 such cannons. The first 40 cannons were ordered. But now it has been increased to 307. It takes 6 to 8 people to operate this cannon.
