The petitions filed in the Supreme Court against the decision of demonetisation were heard on Wednesday. The court has asked the central government and the RBI to file an affidavit on the decision to discontinue Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes. Along with this, the court has also raised many serious questions regarding demonetisation. On November 8, 2016, at 8 pm, Prime Minister Narendra Modi suddenly announced demonetisation.
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court took a big step on the constitutional validity of the Modi government's decision of demonetisation. The Supreme Court has indicated to intervene in the decision of demonetisation. A 5-judge constitution bench headed by Justice Syed Abdul Nazeer has sought answers from the Center and RBI on the decision on demonetisation.
During the hearing, senior advocate P Chidambaram said that the demonetisation, which had been hanging on a tree for six years in the Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court, is again hanging on the shoulders of the government. The court has asked the government to respond.
