 National Desk:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over the country's first indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant to the Navy on Friday.  Modi reached the Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi at 9.30 am.  Here he was given a guard of honour.
PM Modi also unveiled the new Navy Flag of the Navy here.  Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan were present on the occasion.  Modi said that he praised the engineers who built this aircraft carrier and said – the number of cables and wires in this ship can reach from Kochi to Kashi.
Prime Minister Modi said, "This is a proud moment for Indians. This is an example of India's talent. This is a powerful picture of a strong India. This is the incomparable elixir of Amrit Mahotsav. It tells that if you are determined, nothing is impossible.  We are witnessing the rise of a new sun today.
How much electricity does it generate?  5 thousand houses can be illuminated with it.  It is equal to two football grounds.  Cables and wires can start from Kochi and reach Kashi.  These complexity exemplify the vitality of our engineers."
INS Vikrant is the largest warship built in the country.  This aircraft carrier is capable of carrying 20 MiG-29 fighter jets.  Its cost is about 20 thousand crore rupees.  In the 1971 war, INS Vikrant with its Seahawk fighter jets destroyed enemy positions in Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and Khulna in Bangladesh.
INS Vikrant was retired from the Navy on 31 January 1997.  Now after almost 25 years, INS Vikrant is once again being reborn.  In the 1971 war, INS Vikrant destroyed enemy positions in Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and Khulna in Bangladesh with its Seahawk fighter jets.
