Pragjyoti Communications's 28th Foundation Day Celebrated

 The 28th foundation day of Pragjyoti Communications, a leading socio-cultural organization of Assam, was celebrated on February 12. To mark the occasion, a lecture on the topic “ Assamese Language as a Classical Language , Present and Future Duties of Us in this Regard" was organised. Noted script expert and writer ,Er. Ashok Sarma spoke in length on the topic and insisted that it has now become important for the Assamese script to get recognition. “ As the Assamese Language received Classical Language recognition, now we should try to acquire the recognition of its script in major international fora such as Unicode ; he added. Delivering the opening speech, Chairman of the organization ,reputed Editor and writer Dipanka Hazaika informed the tasks done by the Pragjyoti Communications since its inception as a media Agency and later as a social -cultural- literary and environmental organization. Suresh Ranjan Gaduka, Amarjyoti Bora, Nabajyoti Kalita, among some other members of the organization recalled the past activities done by it.  Kritanjali Dutta delivered the inaugural speech.Sarat Kalita, Mukut Lochan Kalita, Parijat Handiqui, Nimananda Das,Ajit Thakuria among others opined on the present and possible future of Assamese language and literature. In the programme, Guwahat Pran Dhiren Baruah, Agriculture Scientist Dr. Dhirendra Nath Borthakur and former Principal of Cotton  college and Physicist Dr. Anil Kumar Goswami who guided the organization since its inception were also remembered and Dipanka Hazaika spoke about the contributions of three departed eminent personalities towards Assamese Society as a whole.

It may be noted that Pragjyoti Communications has been observing the World Environment Day every year at Pabitora since 2010 apart from its other socio-cultural activities. It publishes 9 issues of an annual magazine called “ Pabitora, on June 5. It has also published a number of memorial books namely “ Jajabar" on Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, “ Jyoti Prapat' on Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwalla among others. Besides, it also published  felicitation volume on Guwahat Pran Dhiren Baruah and Agriculture scientist Dr. Dhirendra Nath Barthakur.
