The Harela Festival started with the planting of greenery

Harela festival, the symbol of greenery, is celebrated with great pomp in the rainy season in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand.  This year, the festival is coming up on the 16th of July.  This folk festival is a message of the arrival of Sawan, behind which is the wish for a flourishing crop, the preservation of seeds and the blessings of the elders.  People from villages in Uttarakhand at home and abroad send green straws as blessings for letters.  Along with the drums, plants are also planted all over the mountain on this day.
