Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Astana, Kazakhstan. Amid the ongoing border dispute between India and China in eastern Ladakh, the foreign ministers of both countries met away from the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The two sides agreed to step up efforts through diplomatic and military channels to resolve issues in eastern Ladakh.
Jayashankar told Wang that it was necessary to respect the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and ensure peace in the border areas. The External Affairs Minister also reiterated India’s firm view that relations between the two countries should be based on mutual respect, interest and sensitivity.
