Bhartrihari Mahatab appointed as Protem Speaker, will administer oath to new MPs

The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha will start on June 24 . The Lok Sabha Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be elected.  Earlier on Thursday (June 20), President Draupadi Murmu appointed BJP MP from Cuttack in Odisha Bharthari Mahatab as protem speaker under Article 95 (1) of the Constitution.  He will administer the oath of office to the newly elected MPs in Parliament.Bhartrihari Mahatab is a seven-time MP from Cuttack.  He left the BJD and joined the BJP in March this year.  In 2017, he was awarded the Outstanding Parliamentarian Award for his outstanding performance in the debates in the Lok Sabha.
