Suhelwa Wildlife Sanctuary to be state’s 5th tiger reserve

A new tiger sanctuary will soon be established in Uttar Pradesh after evidence of tiger population in Suhelwa Wildlife Sanctuary (SWS) , which includes Balrampur, Sravasti and Gonda districts.
The announcement was made during the 10th anniversary celebration of the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve (PTR) on Sunday. Manoj Kumar Singh, the additional chief secretary of environment, forest, and climate change, said the state’s fifth tiger reserve — after Pilibhit, Amangarh, Ranipur and Bijnor — will soon be notified.SWS is spread across 452sqkm, with 232sqkm designated as the core area and 220sqkm as the buffer zone.
The Centre’s report on the tiger census, released last April, confirmed photographic proof of tigers in Suhelwa for the first time.
