Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko became the first person to complete 1,000 days in space

Russian astronaut Oleg Kononenko has become the first person in the world to complete 1,000 days in space.  In Russia, an astronaut is called a cosmonaut.  Oleg has set the record for completing 1000 days in space overall.  The previous record was held by Russian cosmonaut Gennady Padalka.  He was in space for 878 days. 

 Oleg has completed 1000 days in space on his fifth spacewalk.  He is also the third commander of the International Space Station.  His last space flight to the Orbital Laboratory, or International Space Station, was on September 15,2023.  He was then sent to the space station from the Soyuz Ames-24 spacecraft.
