Madhya Pradesh-based entrepreneur and fitness enthusiast Jyoti Ratre has made history by becoming the oldest Indian woman to climb Mount Everest.  At age 55, Ratre reached the summit at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 19, to achieve the remarkable feat.
The overnight achievement comes exactly six years after Sangeeta Bahl , who won the title of 'India's oldest woman to climb Mount Everest' on May 19, 2018 at the age of 53.  This is Ratre's second attempt to reach the world's highest peak.   Unfortunately, in 2023, they had to abandon the 8,160m climb due to unfavorable weather conditions.
Undeterred by this failure, Ratre was determined to pursue his dream.   The journey to the overnight summit was fraught with challenges, reminiscent of their previous attempt.  Bad weather conditions forced them to spend four nights at Lotse camp at an altitude of 7,800 meters.  In addition, they spent a night at Everest Camp 4, above 8,000 meters, before beginning the final climb.
