CM laid down a condition for Bangladeshi Muslims to become native residents of Assam

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has laid down certain conditions for Bengali-speaking Muslims of migrant Bangladeshi origin to become indigenous residents of the state. Bengali-speaking Muslims of migrant Bangladeshi origin are known as 'Miya'. The CM has outlined specific conditions for them. On Saturday, Sarma stressed that to be considered indigenous, individuals must follow certain cultural norms and practices of Assamese society.
The CM laid down conditions for becoming a native, including having two children in the family, avoiding polygamy and preventing the marriage of minor daughters. The Chief Minister expressed concern over encroachment on the lands of 'satras' (Vaishnav monasteries) by some groups and stressed the importance of respecting Assamese cultural values.
The Chief Minister also stressed on the need for education and urged the Muslim community to focus on fields like medicine and engineering instead of madrassas. He talked about educating daughters and giving them the right to inherit ancestral property.
