Calcutta High Court judge Abhijeet Gangopadhyay, who has handed down one landmark verdict after another in several cases including the teacher recruitment scam, is stepping down on Tuesday.  "After that, he's going to go to the 'big field,'" he said.  "If he gets a chance in politics, he can go into politics," the judge said.
"Monday will be his last day in the Calcutta High Court," the judge said in an interview with the media on Sunday.  He will release the cases on Monday.  He will then send his resignation to the president on Tuesday.  Replying to a question, Justice Ganguly hinted at going into politics.  When asked if he was contesting the Lok Sabha elections?  "If I join a political party, if they give me a ticket, I will consider it," the judge said.  When asked about the reasons for his resignation, Justice Gangopadhyay said, “I was challenged by many people from the existing ruling party.  The call they made to me during the challenge forced me to make this decision.  I want to congratulate the ruling party for this.''
