An FIR has been registered against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Assam.  He is leading the party's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and is in Assam for the last few days.  The FIR has been registered on the instructions of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.  Apart from Rahul Gandhi, FIR was registered against KC Benugopal, Kanhaiya Kumar and other party leaders.  For the last few days, a heated argument was being seen between CM Sarma and Rahul Gandhi.
Assam Police alleges that Rahul Gandhi took a different route than the one fixed for his visit.  He was also given advance security.  According to Assam Police, when the yatra reached near Khanapara traffic point on NH-27, to the administration's surprise, Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders instigated the crowd as part of a criminal conspiracy and diverted them from the route towards Guwahati city.
Assam Police said that the crowd became violent and unruly and the unlawful assembly moved towards GS Road (Guwahati city), blocking the public road i.e. NH 37.  Congress workers broke barricades and attacked policemen on GS Road.  They did not stop even after being refused by the policemen.
