Amid the ongoing diplomatic tension between India and Canada over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Nijjar, India has given an ultimatum to the Trudeau government to recall its diplomats. Modi government has asked Canada to recall 41 diplomats from India by October 10. India has said in clear words that even after October 10, if these diplomats remain in India, their diplomatic immunity will also be abolished.
According to a report in the English newspaper 'Financial Times', currently there are 62 Canadian diplomats in India. Modi government has asked to reduce it to 21. That is, the Indian government has asked Canada to recall its 41 diplomats by October 10.
The newspaper quoted a source aware of the matter and wrote that India has even said that if these diplomats stay in the country even after October 10, then all the immunities that a diplomat gets will be removed.
During a press conference of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs on September 21, spokesperson Arindam Bagchi had said, "The number of Canadian diplomats in India is more than the number of diplomats in India and Canada. So there is a need to reduce it. Because each country has diplomatic relations with the other country." Wants parity in the number and grade of diplomats deployed."
