Nationwide cleanliness campaign will be launched on October 1, PM appeals to the people of the country

In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal of 'one hour of shramdaan for cleanliness', a nationwide cleanliness campaign will be launched on October 1.  The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs gave this information on Sunday.  The ministry said in a statement that before Gandhi Jayanti, the Prime Minister has made a unique call to fellow citizens.

 In the 105th episode of 'Mann Ki Baat', the Prime Minister appealed to all the citizens to collectively do 'one hour shramdaan for cleanliness' on October 1 at 10 am and said that it would be a 'swachchhajan' to Mahatma Gandhi on the eve.  .

 The statement said that this mega cleanliness drive calls upon citizens from all walks of life to engage in genuine cleaning activities of public places like market places, railway tracks, water bodies, tourist places, religious places etc.

 It said that every city, gram panchayat, all sectors of the government like civil aviation, railways, information and technology etc., public institutions will facilitate citizen-led cleanliness programs.  NGOs, resident welfare associations and private organizations interested in organizing cleanliness programs can also apply online on the portal of urban local bodies or district administrations.
