Prayag Raj, one of the most successful writers of Hindi films from the 1970s to the 1990s, passed away in Mumbai at 4 pm today.  He was a big name in the industry for a long time.  He tried his hand at writing, acting, directing, singing and writing songs.  He was also part of some international films.  But his most notable identity was as the storyteller and scriptwriter of some of Amitabh Bachchan's most successful films.  He was born in Allahabad.  He was named after his city.  His father Ram Das Azad was a famous poet of his time.  His father died when he was young, and he began working to support the family financially.  He worked for Prithvi Theaters in Mumbai and also studied.
