India-Canada Free Trade Agreement Talks: Talks on a free trade agreement (FTA) between India and Canada have resumed after a decade. Meanwhile, Canada's October trade mission to India has been postponed. Canadian Trade Minister Mary Energy was scheduled to visit India as part of the trade mission.
A senior government official on Friday said talks would resume after the "political issues" were resolved, without referring to the Khalistan issue, which has caused differences between the two countries. Canada recently said talks were on hold.
“There have been some political developments in Canada that India has objected to. So, for now, until these political issues are resolved, we have suspended the talks, the moment the political issues are resolved, the talks will resume, so, it’s just a pause.’
Meanwhile, Canada has suspended its trade mission to India in October. “At this time, we are postponing the upcoming trade mission to India,” said spokeswoman Shanti Cosentino, spokeswoman for Canadian Trade Minister Mary Ng, without giving any reason.
