Article 370: The Union Government on Monday told the Supreme Court that it wants National Conference (NC) leader Mohammad Akbar Lone to apologize for chanting ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly in  Lone is the lead petitioner challenging the repeal of Article 370, which gave special status to the former state of Jammu and Kashmir.  Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who appeared on behalf of the Centre, told a five-member bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud that the key petitioners challenging the repeal of the loan provision are but they have to show that they have allegiance to the Constitution, with  He must have apologized for chanting slogans in the House.
The bench, comprising Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Justice Sanjeev Khanna, Justice BR Gavai and Justice Suryakant, also heard the case.  The bench said it would ask him to make a statement when it was his turn to repay the loan.  The court said it had read the newspaper and taken note of the arguments made in court.
“These statements by senior leaders have a lot of impact.  If no apologies are made, others will be encouraged.  This will affect the steps taken to restore normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
 Senior advocates Rakesh Dwivedi and V Giri, appearing on behalf of the interveners and supporting the repeal of Article 370, supported Mehta that Lone should file an affidavit apologizing for shouting slogans.
