Actress-turned-politician Jaya Prada has been sentenced to six months in jail by a Chennai court in an old case.  He has also been fined Rs 5,000.  Jaya Prada has been convicted of not paying Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESI) money to her theater workers.
 Jaya Prada and her brother Raj Babu are partners of Jaya Prada Cine Theatre.  The 2nd Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Egmore, Tamil Nadu, convicted both of them for non-payment of contributions due to ESI.  The court sentenced him to 6 months simple imprisonment.
 Employees State Insurance Corporation filed a complaint on August 5, 2004.  It stated that during the period November 1991 to September 2002, the outstanding contribution of Rs.8,17,794/- has not been paid on behalf of the workmen on behalf of Jaya Prada Cine Theatre.  ESI held that the accused had committed the offense of non-payment of contribution under Section 85(a) of the Employees State Insurance Act, punishable under Section 85(i)(b) of the Act.
 After hearing the case, the Metropolitan Magistrate convicted Jaya Prada and Raj Babu.  Both have been sentenced to six months imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000.  8,17,794 on behalf of the accused to the complainant, the court order also said.
