Price Hike in Manipur: Sporadic incidents of violence are still reported from some parts of Manipur.  However, things are returning to normal in many areas and people are leaving their homes to buy everyday items.  Meanwhile, food prices in the state have gone up, adding to the hardships of the people of the violence-hit state.
Milk prices in Manipur have doubled to Rs 170 per litre.  Tomato prices have also crossed Rs 150 per kg.  In fact, goods that used to come by car in Manipur via Imphal are now coming from Mizoram.  This has led to a rise in food prices.
Earlier, the goods had to travel about 60 km from Imphal to Churachandpur.  The goods are now coming from Mizoram, increasing the distance to 600 km.  The goods take about 24 hours to arrive.  In other words, the basic prices of goods in Manipur have not gone up, but the fares for transporting them have gone up and this has a direct impact on the selling price in the market.
