Assam Government is planning to build a ropeway at the Kamakhya Temple in Nilachal Hills, Guwahati. Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed the plan in a meeting recently.
A detailed study is being conducted to operationalise a ropeway from the Kamakhya corridor to the Kamakhya Railway Station.  It was announced that once the project is completed, the ropeway will be around 1.8 kilometres in length.
The ropeway will reduce travel time by 55 to 60 per cent for pilgrims and tourists arriving in the city via the railway system, claimed CM Sarma. He also claimed that it will increase the potential for tourism and offer a scenic view of Guwahati.
The ropeway will have two stations and will boast an approximate capacity of 1000 passengers per hour per direction (PPHPD). It will feature a mono cable detachable gondola and will reportedly take around seven minutes to complete one journey.
The project is expected to be completed by June 2026.
