Johnson & Johnson must pay 154m to a California cancer patient. A default state court in Auckland, USA, has found the company guilty of causing cancer from Johnson Baby's talcum powder to a California person. The victim had alleged that her health was adversely affected by the company's baby powder.
Anthony Hernandez Valadez, 24, suffered from a cancer called mesothelioma because of J&J's baby powder, the court ruled Tuesday. Hernandez has said he has developed mesothelioma cancer near his chest from using the company's talcum powder since childhood. There have been several previous cases involving Johnson & Johnson Products in which the company has had to pay damages.
J&J officials have said the company's baby powder- special is sold in white bottles. As such, it never contains asbestos. It is safe and can not cause cancer. Officials say they are seeking a settlement to avoid lawsuits as well as billions in legal fees and expenses.
