The path to the Wrestling Association of India elections is clear. The Supreme Court has lifted the stay on the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) elections. During the hearing on Tuesday, the Supreme Court overturned the Gauhati High Court's decision. The Supreme Court lifted the Gauhati High Court order staying the wrestling association elections. Issuing notice on the petition, a bench of Justices Aniruddha Bose and S Venkatanarayana Bhatti stayed the Gauhati High Court order.
The apex court was hearing a petition filed by the Andhra Pradesh Amateur Wrestling Association challenging the Gauhati High Court's interim order staying the WFI elections. During this hearing, the apex court lifted the stay on the election. This has paved the way for the election of the wrestling association and the selection of a new president. The wrestlers' dispute may also be resolved after the selection of a new president. The country's top wrestlers have been protesting against outgoing Wrestling Association president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh since January this year.
Brij Bhushan is also accused of sexually assaulting several wrestlers. The investigation in this case is not over. However, the underage wrestler who accused him of sexual assault has withdrawn her complaint.
