The government of Nepal has now started protesting against the Tughlaq decree of the mayor of Kathmandu banning the screening of all Hindi films on the pretext of the controversial film 'Adipurush'.
The Ministry of Information and Communications has filed a serious objection on behalf of the government of Nepal on the directive of Mayor Balen Sah. The ministry issued a statement saying it was illegal to ban the screening of all films including Adipurush.
The statement said that the dialogue of Adipurush, which people objected to, was muted and allowed to run in theatres. Despite this, it is not right to be opposed by some people. It is not appropriate to protest after the Nepal Censor Board removed the word India and issued a broadcast certificate.
The government has set up a censor board to decide which films will be released in Nepal and it takes the final decision in such disputes. Therefore, it is inappropriate to talk about someone else illegally going outside the jurisdiction and banning the screening of films.
