There is big news for the pilgrims going on Amarnath Yatra. The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board on Thursday issued a health advisory saying that more than 40 food items have been banned during the upcoming Amarnath pilgrimage. These include beverages, fried and fast food items. In other words, people will not be able to take restricted food with them on the trip and they will not be able to find it anywhere in between. Pilgrims are also advised to keep themselves fit by walking at least 5 kilometers per day.
The two-track trek to the 3,880-metre-high holy cave in the South Kashmir Himalayas is scheduled to start on July For Amarnath Yatra, devotees can use the traditional 48 km Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the 14 km shorter Baltal route in Ganderbal.
"The list of banned food items and items allowed to be carried on the pilgrimage will be checked before starting the 14-km Amarnath Yatra," officials said.
According to the Sri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) advisory, the food items banned include pulao, fried rice, pudi, bhature, pizza, burgers, stuffed parantha, dosa, buttered bread, foods made with cream, pickles , chutneys, fried papads, chow mein and other fried and fast food items.
Keeping in mind the health of the devotees, the board has recommended healthy alternatives like cereals, pulses, green vegetables and salads along with some rice dishes. The board said everything is allowed for devotees except 40 banned items.
