The Gauhati High Court will be relocated from its current location to Amingaon, situated on the outskirts of Guwahati. Additionally, all lower courts of Kamrup (M) and Kamrup districts will also be relocated to the same site.
The Assam government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, recently held a meeting in Dispur to discuss this significant decision. During the meeting, it was decided to establish a high-level committee tasked with inspecting the proposed land for the new court complex, as per media reports.
The reported minutes of the meeting revealed that the high-level committee would consist of a Justice from the Gauhati High Court, to be nominated by the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court upon the request of the state government.
Other members of the committee will include the Advocate General of Assam, the Chief Secretary of Assam, the Land Revenue & Commissioner, the Secretary of the Judicial Department and the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup. The Special Commissioner and Special Secretary of the Public Works Department (Building & National Highways) shall serve as the member secretaries.
The committee's primary responsibility will be to evaluate a vast expanse of approximately 240 Bighas in the Rangmahal area at Amingaon, out of which roughly 100 Bighas will be allocated for the construction of the new High Court Complex, envisioned as a Judicial City, as stated the minutes.
