Union Home Minister Amit Shah has arrived in Imphal on a four-day visit amid ongoing violence in Manipur. Amit Shah is constantly talking to people from different communities there. The Manipur CM had said more than 40 militants had been killed in clashes with security forces so far. The Congress today handed over a memorandum to the President over the ongoing violence in Manipur.
Fresh violence broke out in the northeast on Sunday, just before Amit Shah arrived in Manipur. At least five people were killed and several others injured. The Home Minister will visit districts where the Maitei and Kuki tribes are populated and where violence has continued since May Shah will also hold meetings with other stakeholders including top officials.
He tweeted that he had meaningful discussions with members of various civil society organisations. He expressed his commitment to peace and assured to support the restoration of peace. Amit Shah has also summoned all BJP MLAs for a meeting. He will hold the meeting after returning from Chandrapur area.
Amit Shah will meet representatives of the Coordination Committee of Manipur Integrity today. The Home Minister will then meet officials of security agencies. The committee hoped to restore peace in the state soon ahead of Shah's visit.
