All the cases related to the Mathura Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi dispute will now be heard in the Allahabad High Court. The Allahabad High Court has ordered all the cases pending in the Mathura lower court.
A petition was filed in the High Court against the decision. It said the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi case in Mathura was of national importance. In view of this, the hearing should be conducted by the High Court.
The High Court then decided to hear all the cases itself. The petitions filed in different courts sought to be heard in a single court.
The Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi dispute in Mathura is quite old. The dispute relates to ownership over 13.37 acres of land. On October 12, 1968, Shri Krishna Janmasthan Seva Sansthan signed an agreement with the Shahi Masjid Eidgah Trust.
The agreement called for the construction of both the temple and the mosque on 13.7 acres of land. The Shri Krishna Janmasthan owns 10.9 acres of land and the Royal Eidgah Masjid owns 2.5 acres.
The Hindu side says the royal Eidgah mosque was built by illegal occupation. They have a claim to this land. The Hindu side has demanded the removal of the royal Eidgah mosque and the transfer of the land to the birthplace of Krishna.
The case was filed by Hindu Sena national president Vishnu Gupta and Delhi-based vice-president Surjeet Singh Yadav. It said that the Eidgah was built by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb by demolishing the temple of Lord Krishna on 13.37 acres of land.
