May 21st is the favorite day of tea lovers as it is dedicated to tea.  Every year this day is celebrated as International Tea Day to celebrate the cultural and economic significance.  The day aims to raise awareness about various aspects of tea including its history, production, consumption and health benefits.  In addition, the day reflects the importance of global tea.
The first International Tea Day was celebrated in 2005 in New Delhi, the capital of India and later spread to other tea growing countries like Sri Lanka, Nepal, Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Kenya, Malawi, Malaysia, Uganda and Tanzania  .  Ten years later, the Government of India proposed to expand the observance of International Tea Day in 2015 through the FAO Intergovernmental Group on Tea, which leads numerous efforts to support the tea economy globally.  The United Nations General Assembly decided to designate May 21 as International Tea Day.
