Karnataka DGP Praveen Sood has been appointed as the Director of CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation).  He will serve in this capacity for two years.  He could take over on May 25 as the term of the existing director Subodh Kumar Jaiswal expires on the same day.
 A high-level meeting was called to discuss the name of Praveen Sood.  The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice D.K.  Y.  Chandrachud was accompanied by Opposition Leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.  It had his name stamped on it.  Sources said Choudhary had objected to Sood's candidacy.Praveen Sood was born in 1964 in Himachal Pradesh.  He is a graduate of IIT Delhi.  He is a 1986 batch IPS officer and is currently the DGP of Karnataka.  In 1989, he became Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mysore.  He was followed by Superintendent of Police, Bellary and Raichur.  He then served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Bangalore.
