Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) top-order batsman Venkatesh Iyer defended skipper Nitish Rana’s decision to bowl the first over during the IPL match against Rajasthan Royals. KKR had to defend only 149 runs and Rana himself took the first over. Yashswi Jaiswal scored 26 runs with two sixes and three fours in the over. Royals won the match easily by 9 wickets.
“The left-arm batsman (Jaiswal) was at the crease and he (Rana) is an off-spinner. I don't think it was the wrong decision.” Rana's decision weighed heavily on the team, but Venkatesh said the scenario would have been different if he had got a wicket in this over.
“We all know he is capable of bowling. He has taken several important wickets in his career. His decision did not favor our team, but if he had taken the wicket, it would have been a masterstroke by the captain. Things like that happen in the game.’
