Manipur violence killed 54 people, 10,000 soldiers took to the streets to handle the situation, life returned to track in Imphal

Several people have been killed in the violence in Manipur.  News agency PTI in its report quoted sources as claiming that Manipur has lost 54 lives so far.  Of the 54 dead, 16 bodies are kept at the Churachandpur district hospital morgue while 15 are at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal East, PTI said.  In addition, the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Lamphel in Imphal West confirmed 23 deaths.  About 10,000 troops of the Army and Assam Rifles have been deployed in the state to control the situation.
 PTI quoted sources as saying that several people were killed in the fighting between the communities.  About 100 others were injured.  However, police declined to confirm this.  The bodies were reportedly brought from districts like Imphal East and West, Churachandpur and Bishenpur.  Several others injured in the shooting are undergoing treatment at RIMS and Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences.
