UN report estimates: ‘India could overtake China in population this year’

India will become the world's most populous country by the middle of this year.  With a population of about 3 million, or more than 3 million, the country is on track to overtake China to become the world's most populous country, according to figures released by the United Nations on Wednesday.
 The United Nations Population Fund’s (UNFPA) State of World Population Report, 2023 demographic data estimates India’s population at 1,428.6 million or 1.4286 billion compared to China’s 1.4257 billion.  If you look at the statistics, the United States ranks third with a population of 340 million.
