Internet Shutdown: India is the country where the most internet shutdowns in 2023

2023 was the worst year for Indian internet users.  This year users faced problems due to internet shutdown.  By almost every measure, the year 2023 was the worst year of internet shutdowns on record to date.  India topped the world in implementing shutdowns with at least 116 internet disruptions.  Other countries also reported incidents of internet disruption.
Disrupted the internet at least 283 times in 39 countries.  India has been at the forefront of this.  These figures for internet disruption in the year 2023 have been released by Access Now and #KeepItOn.  This report explains how Shrinking Democracy, Growing Violence led to an internet shutdown last year.
