A thin layer of polluted smog covers Kathmandu's atmosphere. Due to this, the air quality of the capital of the Himalayan country has deteriorated dramatically and it has become the city with the worst AQI (air quality index) in the world.
Particulate matter pollution (PM 2.5) levels in Kathmandu were 241 micrograms per cubic meter at 8 am, according to readings from IQ Air, a Swiss group that collects air-quality data around the world. It rose to 258 by 10 am.
