The daughters of India are now ready to fire cannon shells at the enemy army.  The Indian Army has inducted women officers into the Artillery Regiment, a major combat support branch.  Five female officers have been inducted into the Artillery Regiment after successfully completing their training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai on 29 April  Three female officers will be deployed to units stationed on the northern borders and the other two female officers will take on challenging positions in the western theater.
The commissioning of women officers in artillery regiments is a testament to the ongoing change in the Indian Army, when in January this year, Army Chief General Manoj Pandey announced the decision to commission women officers in the artillery, which was later approved by the government.  This momentous event marked a major milestone in the journey of women officers in the Indian Army, who are breaking barriers to serve their country with heroism and distinction.
Lt Mehak Saini has been commissioned in a SATA regiment, Lt Sakshi Dubey and Lt Aditi Yadav in a field regiment, Lt Pavitra Mudgil in a medium regiment and Lt Akanksha in a rocket regiment.
