One of the cheetahs brought to India from Namibia has given birth to four cubs.  Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav made the announcement on Wednesday.  Bhupendra Yadav described the ‘Amrit Kal’ as an important moment in the history of wildlife conservation in India.
"I am delighted to announce that one of the cheetahs brought to India on September 17, 2022 under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given birth to four cubs," Bhupendra Yadav tweeted.  The Minister congratulated the entire team of ‘Project Cheetah’ for their tireless efforts to correct past ecological mistakes and bring cheetahs to India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi released five female and three male cheetahs from Namibia in the Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh on his 72nd birthday on September 17 last year.  One of the female cheetahs, Sasha, died of kidney disease last Monday.  Madhya Pradesh Forest and Wildlife officials said.
Twelve other cheetahs were also released in Kuno on February 18 after being brought from South Africa.  The last cheetah in India died in 1947 in the Korea district of present-day Chhattisgarh and the fastest animal on land was declared extinct in the country in 1952.
