National Desk:
Two days later i.e. from April 1, 2023, the new financial year is going to start.  With its introduction, is UPI Transaction also going to be expensive?  In a report released on Tuesday, it was said that the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has recommended imposition of PPI charge on merchant payments above Rs 2000.  On these reports, NPCI has clarified its stand by issuing a press release and said that UPI is free.
A media report on Tuesday said NPCI is preparing to introduce prepaid payment instruments or PPI.  These charges are recommended to be 0.5-1.1 per cent.  The circular had mentioned the proposal to levy 1.1 per cent prepaid payment instrument or PPI on transactions over Rs 2,000 through UPI, which would be payable on merchant transactions.
The Unified Payment Interface (UPI) is free, fast, secure and seamless, NPCI said in a release on Wednesday.  Every month, more than Rs 8 billion transactions are processed absolutely free for users and businesses using bank accounts.  The release from NPCI follows reports that UPI was alleged to be charged prepaid payment instrument PPI charges on merchant payments exceeding Rs 2,000.
