CJI announces launch of 'neutral citation' system for Supreme Court judgments

The 'Neutral Citation' system will be applicable in all the decisions of the Supreme Court.  CJI DY Chandrachud announced this on Thursday.  Neutral citation will be for all 30 thousand decisions given by the court.  The apex court's judgment has introduced this system to ensure a uniform pattern.
The CJI said that the Court is using Maneesh Learning Tools to translate its judgments from English to local languages.  Steps have been taken to introduce and implement a uniform, reliable and secure methodology for identifying and citing judgments in the apex court.
The CJI said the court will also translate all judgments and is using machine tools, which are being verified by a team of district judges.
The CJI also said that the High Court should also follow neutral citation for its decisions.  At present, the High Courts of Delhi, Kerala and Madras have introduced neutral citation for their decisions.  The Chief Justice also discussed other initiatives like ESCR and translation of judgments in local languages.
CJI DY Chandrachud, chairing the e-Committee of the Supreme Court in November 2022, has set up a three-judge panel of High Court judges to prepare a framework for creating neutral citations to cite judgments of the High Court as well as the Supreme Court.  was formed.  Delhi High Court Judge Justice Rajeev Shakdher, Kerala High Court Judge Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan V and Karnataka High Court Judge Justice Suraj Govind Raj were declared members of the committee.
